Mike is an accomplished musician and songwriter with an extensive background in live performance. He has been signed to Capitol Records with acclaimed indie rock band the Figgs. While with the Figgs, Mike has shared bills with re-known artists such as U2, The Cranberries and Weezer. He has appeared on the Conan O’Brian Show, Carson Daily and the John Stewart Show. His band, the Gentlemen were winners of the 2002 WBCN Rock N Roll Rumble, and they regularly perform as ESPN’s Peter Gammons’ backing band at the Hot Stove Cool Music benefit concerts for Red Sox’ GM Theo Epstein’s Foundation to be Named Later.

A musician since age 10, Mike is an avid music collector. His music knowledge and extensive, ever-growing music library includes all styles and eras of music, so he is sure to understand what you want, and have what you are looking for.
Mike also recognizes that he is not there to be the main attraction, or center of attention. So you will never find him talking over the music, playing games, wearing costumes, or teaching line dances, a DJ stereotype that Mike strives to avoid. He has always worked under the philosophy that if you play the right mix, the music will bring the guests to the dance floor.

We really loved Mike Gent, he was fabulous. He arrived well before the start time of our party and was all set up when it was time to start the party. He engaged with my daughter before the party to gain an understanding of her music interests and customized the cocktail hour music with a Beatles theme. During the dinner hour we had music that was background, not too noisy so everyone had a chance to hear conversation. Dancing music afterward provided opportunities for something fast, slow and appealed to the younger as well as the older generation. If we were to have any more opportunities, of course we would hire Mike. And we would be happy to provide a reference if you needed one.

Jason and I have just returned from our "mini-moon" to Maine, and I wanted to let you know how much we deeply appreciate the wonderful job you did with our wedding last weekend. We've been a bit out of the loop this past week, but the immediate feedback to us and our family members was that our guests had a blast at the wedding. This was in no small part to the excellent job you did keeping the dancefloor full. I myself really enjoyed that my friends, my younger relatives, and even my older relatives were out there dancing all night. It was really the perfect mix of songs for our group, and many remarked that there had not been one song they didn't love all night. I agree!

We really enjoyed working with Murray Hill talent and our DJ Mike Gent for our wedding. We were looking for an low-key DJ that would play music we love (we had a bunch of requests), while picking music that would work for the cocktail hour, dinner, and reception (we wanted a packed dance floor!). We also wanted someone affordable. We were completely satisfied in all respects. Before the wedding, we discussed our musical preferences with Mike, and felt confident that the night would go smoothly. He was very friendly and professional. At the reception, he organized the wedding party and did introductions, and throughout dinner he introduced speeches, as we had planned. During the reception, the dance floor was packed, and Mike did a great job switching between some specific cultural requests (polka music, for ex.) and more traditional reception dance music. He was also very responsive to requests, even staying after the last song to play a heavily requested track. Overall, we couldn't have been happier with our wedding DJ, and we received a lot of compliments about music that night.
