Velveteen Playboys

Velveteen Playboys are Boston’s own “super group” of musical talent including guitarist Robert Holmes formerly of the chart topping band “til tuesday,” bassist Lenny Bradford formerly of “Entrain,” and saxophonist Bob Gay who played and recorded with such greats as David Bowie and Chaka Khan. Their history of musical styles range from 80′s New Wave to Swing, the Beatles to Burlesque, and Led Zeppelin to Cabaret. All these influences combine with the guiding force of their own, brilliant originality to create a lush, melodic and powerful sound that can only be described as Velveteen Playboys.

Velveteen Playboys were the featured musical guest at the 104th Millrose Games at Madison Square Garden on Friday, January 28th. Their performance was lauded as one of the highlights of the Games on the ESPN2 live television broadcast and in the opening paragraph of the New York Times coverage of the Games the next morning.

But verbal effusions cannot adequately describe Velveteen Playboys. The only way to experience it is live courtesy of Velveteen Playboys. The band will be on tour starting in June 2011 in support of their newly released CD titled, “Shakin’ Not Stirred” engineered and mixed by 3 time Grammy Award winning producer Bob St. John (Extreme, Collective Soul, Duran Duran, etc…).
