Since the late 1800’s, Newport, Rhode Island has been one of America’s top destinations for weddings, corporate events and social affairs of every kind. Its long standing reputation as the home of ‘high society’ lends Newport as a playground for the wealthy and those on the journey to something greater.
Known by travelers as the City-by-the-Sea, much of the intrigue of the town stems from its maritime history. The city itself is the southernmost community on Aquidneck Island and was a major trade center in the 18th century. Only New York City and Boston could rival the port-side activity of this amazing city.
The popularity continued when, during the 1880’s, the privileged socialite set from New York found summer refuge on the island. Seventy-room ‘cottages’ and vacation estates began popping up by the handful. From that point on, some of the most prestigious families in American history called Newport home.
While Rhode Island boasts many of the most beautiful communities in New England, such as Barrington, Jamestown, and Narragansett, none capture the timeless allure of Newport. It is also just a short drive from other desirable locations such as Bristol, Portsmouth, and Providence. With its limitless collection of high profile event destinations and a plethora of different activities to entertain you day and night, Newport could quite possibly be the perfect wedding destination!
- Take traffic into consideration. Route 24 is the primary travel route to get to Newport from the Boston area. Be sure your vendors understand this and allot enough time to get to the location.
- Many venues throughout Newport and other Rhode Island communities enforce a curfew and noise ordinance, requiring music to be turned off by midnight or earlier.
- If you have not yet chosen a caterer or photographer for your Newport event and are unsure of who to use, please check with your Murray Hill Talent representative. We enjoy close relationships with some of the area’s most sought after vendors.
- In Newport, no event is too extravagant. The venues are glamorous, and your event should be, too! Newport exudes ‘Great Gatsby’ elegance and you should be proud to host your event with such style! Cheers!
